Nestled in the backwoods just 10 minutes from Pinehurst, North Carolina, is a small farm with a story to tell. Once a 2000-acre tobacco and pitch (tar) property, Elizabeth Sugg and her husband Russell purchased the remaining 62-acres of Rubicon Farm in 2005, and made the 1820 Black-Cole House, the central feature of the land, their second home. The quaint heart-pine cottage with Federal-style details is situated in the heart an 8-acre grassy lawn anchored by four majestic magnolia trees. A collection of barns, sheds and outbuildings add varying degrees of charm to the property, one of which served as a post office during the Civil War, and the abundance of green meadows are simply dreamy.
As the couple’s children grew and their use of the farm lessened, Elizabeth decided to share the beauty of this hidden gem with more than just her family. She began to envision the farm coming to life with parties, galas and weddings. She looked at the nearly 200-hundred-year farmhouse and its surroundings, and she saw new beginnings, occasions, people dancing themselves dizzy under the starry night sky. The laughter and music are already in the air, and the timeless warmth and happiness of a long ago era reaches to the present in the tranquil setting of Rubicon. In October, 2014 the first wedding was held at Rubicon. Eleven more followed in 2015, and 2016 has blended more weddings with a home-school graduation, big-year birthday celebrations, a special military retirement party, bridal and baby showers, and more.
With their children now off at college, Elizabeth’s mission now is to get the historic farm even busier, and turn this bucolic treasure into a full-time wedding and event venue.
To kick off the new adventure Elizabeth asked us, Vision Events, to style Rubicon Farm in a way that would showcase all it has to offer. We had an incredible time working with a talented team of vendors to create this Bohemian vibe around the farm.
